A Tale of Two Yarns

It’s always interesting to see how different yarns can create two different looks. Take a look at these two pairs of fingerless mitts. They are knitted from the same pattern, but using two different yarns.

This was knitted from The Fibre Company’s Road to China Light yarn. This is a sport-weight (medium weight) yarn made from 65% Alpaca, 15% Silk, 10% Cashmere, and 10% Camel. It is a light-weight, slightly fuzzy yarn that is slightly loose fitting. I absolutely love how it feels against my skin. But as you see the stitches & pattern are quite clear.

This one is knitted from Sublime Yarn’s Angora Merino, which is a DK-weight (another medium weight, slightly thinner than sport-weight) 80% Merino Wool and 20% Angora (rabbit). The angora creates for fuzziness in the yarn, but it is also incredibly soft. Despite it being a thinner yarn and knitted on same size needles as the first fingerless mitts, it fits snuggly and is slightly thicker.

I’m knitting this same pattern with another yarn that should create another look than the two above. Once finish I will post about that as well.

Different yarns can create a different look in the same pattern. It’s fun to explore what each yarn can bring to the same pattern.
